Where to Find Moose in Moose Hunt Area 10
The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names moose hunt area 10 "South Hoback". It runs to about 321 square miles, in Sublette (63%), Lincoln (23%) and Teton (14%) counties. WGFD reports these moose as the Sublette herd unit, which also takes in moose hunt areas 3, 5, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25. The boundary and the harvest figures are WGFD's. The read of the country inside them is ours, and it says so where it starts.
The line: Hoback River, Dell Creek and Green River
WGFD's 2026 Chapter 8 walks the line around moose hunt area 10 corner by corner. It starts at the confluence of the Hoback and Snake rivers. On the way round it follows U.S. Highway 191, and Hoback River, Dell Creek, Green River and Greys River. Read it as the legal edge of your license rather than as a hint about animals. The full text is in Section 5 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.
Not the same ground as the other hunt area 10s
WGFD numbers each species' hunt areas on its own grid, so the number 10 also belongs to its elk, deer, antelope and bighorn sheep hunt areas 10. Only the bighorn sheep area shares a county with this one. A license is good only in the hunt area of its own species, so this page is about the moose area, and the cards at the foot of the page link the others.
High ground inside the line: Hoback Peak, Clause Peak and Ramshorn Peak
Named high points inside moose hunt area 10 include Hoback Peak at 10,849 feet, Clause Peak at 10,591 feet, Ramshorn Peak at 10,360 feet, Lookout Mountain at 10,322 feet and Beaver Mountain at 9,825 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Moose want willow, water and shade, and they rarely leave the drainage that has all three.
Holding ground: Nutting Draw, Horse Pasture Draw and Coyote Gulch
Below them sit Nutting Draw at 6,995 feet, Horse Pasture Draw at 6,983 feet, Coyote Gulch at 6,956 feet, Miller Draw at 6,833 feet and Clark Draw at 6,772 feet. Those are the basins and bottoms of the area, and they are what you glass into from above.
Water: Cliff Creek Falls
Named water inside the line includes Cliff Creek Falls. Nothing in the data says which of it runs in autumn, so a scouting trip earns its fuel.
Reading the land status
Named ground inside moose hunt area 10 runs from 5,883 feet to 10,849 feet — more than 4,000 feet between the named features alone, so the season you draw decides which part of it you hunt.

Moose Draw Odds
| Season | Tags | Applicants | Draw % | Pts (n/p) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rifle — General Type 1 antlered (resident) | 2 | 74 | 2.7% | — |
| Rifle — General Type 1 antlered (nonresident) | 0 | 21 | 0.0% | — |
Data from 2026 draw results. Each row is one residency pool — read the label before the number. This agency publishes no point thresholds, so the Pts column stays blank and these are pool odds, not what a point total draws.
Open in Draw Odds EngineWyoming Game and Fish's 2026 demand report for moose in moose hunt area 10, residents and nonresidents kept apart because they draw from different license pools:
- Type 1 (antlered moose), residents: 74 first-choice applicants for 2 licenses, 2.7% drawn
WGFD draws full-price moose licenses partly on preference points, for residents and nonresidents alike, highest balance first (Chapter 44, Section 19); the figures above are from its random draw. Drawing a full-price license deletes your moose points, and after an any or antlered moose license from the initial drawing you may not apply for one again. WGFD publishes no preference-point level at which a hunt draws, so none is given here. Every figure was checked against WGFD's demand-report PDFs on 2026-08-10.
