Where to Find Moose in Moose Hunt Area 22
The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names moose hunt area 22 "Raspberry Ridge". It runs to about 115 square miles, entirely in Sublette County. WGFD reports these moose as the Sublette herd unit, which also takes in moose hunt areas 3, 5, 10, 20, 21, 23, 24 and 25. What WGFD publishes for the area is its boundary and its harvest; where the moose stand inside it is our reading of the ground, and the two are kept apart below.
The line: Green River, Hoback River and Dell Creek
WGFD's 2026 Chapter 8 walks the line around moose hunt area 22 corner by corner. It starts where U.S. Highway 191 crosses the divide between the Green River and the Hoback River on Hoback Rim. On the way round it follows U.S. Highway 191, and Green River, Hoback River, Dell Creek and Shoal Creek. That is a legal description, not a habitat map, and it is the text a warden reads you against. The full text is in Section 5 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.
Not the same ground as the other hunt area 22s
WGFD numbers each species' hunt areas on its own grid, so the number 22 also belongs to its elk, deer, antelope and bighorn sheep hunt areas 22. None of them shares a county with this one. A license is good only in the hunt area of its own species, so this page is about the moose area, and the cards at the foot of the page link the others.
Wilderness inside the line: Gros Ventre Wilderness
About 12% of moose hunt area 22 lies in the Gros Ventre Wilderness. WGFD's 2026 regulations print the rule that matters there: no nonresident may hunt big game in a designated wilderness area unless accompanied by a licensed professional guide or a resident guide, with at least one guide for every two nonresident hunters. Inside the wilderness there are no roads, so every animal there comes out on your back or on a horse.
High ground inside the line: The Sawtooth, Hodges Peak and Eagle Peak
Named high points inside moose hunt area 22 include The Sawtooth at 11,230 feet, Hodges Peak at 11,165 feet, Eagle Peak at 10,930 feet, East Rim at 8,887 feet and Raspberry Ridge at 8,063 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Moose want willow, water and shade, and they rarely leave the drainage that has all three.
Holding ground: Rim Draw, Beaver Dam Draw and Elbow Draw
Below them sit Rim Draw at 7,659 feet, Beaver Dam Draw at 7,651 feet, Elbow Draw at 7,493 feet, Jack Creek Basin at 7,144 feet and Parody Draw at 6,776 feet. That is the low ground — where animals drop when they are pushed or when the weather turns.
Reading the land status
Named ground inside moose hunt area 22 runs from 6,526 feet to 11,230 feet — more than 4,000 feet between the named features alone, so the season you draw decides which part of it you hunt.

Moose Success Rates
Wyoming Game and Fish's 2025 harvest report estimates 100% moose success in moose hunt area 22: 5 animals taken by 5 active hunters over 78 days of hunting, or 15.6 days per animal.
These are WGFD's own estimates from its hunter survey, for this hunt area and season only — not a statewide average. One season isn't a trend, so check the current report before you read one into it.
Moose Draw Odds
| Season | Tags | Applicants | Draw % | Pts (n/p) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rifle — General Type 1 antlered (resident) | 1 | 61 | 1.6% | — |
| Rifle — General Type 1 antlered (nonresident) | 0 | 3 | 0.0% | — |
Data from 2026 draw results. Each row is one residency pool — read the label before the number. This agency publishes no point thresholds, so the Pts column stays blank and these are pool odds, not what a point total draws.
Open in Draw Odds EngineWyoming Game and Fish's 2026 demand report for moose in moose hunt area 22, residents and nonresidents kept apart because they draw from different license pools:
- Type 1 (antlered moose), residents: 61 first-choice applicants for 1 license, 1.6% drawn
- Type 1 (antlered moose), nonresidents: 3 first-choice applicants for 0 licenses, 0% drawn
WGFD draws full-price moose licenses partly on preference points, for residents and nonresidents alike, highest balance first (Chapter 44, Section 19); the figures above are from its random draw. Drawing a full-price license deletes your moose points, and after an any or antlered moose license from the initial drawing you may not apply for one again. WGFD publishes no preference-point level at which a hunt draws, so none is given here. Every figure was checked against WGFD's demand-report PDFs on 2026-08-10.
