Where to Find Bighorn Sheep in Bighorn Sheep Hunt Area 10
The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names bighorn sheep hunt area 10 "Jakey's Fork". It runs to about 395 square miles, in Fremont (74%) and Sublette (25%) counties. WGFD reports these bighorn sheep as the Whiskey Mountain herd unit, which also takes in bighorn sheep hunt areas 8 and 9. What WGFD publishes for the area is its boundary and its harvest; where the bighorn sheep stand inside it is our reading of the ground, and the two are kept apart below.
The line: Torrey Creek, Bomber Creek and East Fork
WGFD's 2026 Chapter 9 walks the line around bighorn sheep hunt area 10 corner by corner. It starts where Torrey Creek crosses U.S. Highway 287. On the way round it follows U.S. Highway 287 and U.S.F.S. Road 600, and Torrey Creek, Bomber Creek, East Fork and Continental Divide. That is a legal description, not a habitat map, and it is the text a warden reads you against. The full text is in Section 6 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 3.
Not the same ground as the other hunt area 10s
WGFD numbers each species' hunt areas on its own grid, so the number 10 also belongs to its elk, deer, antelope and moose hunt areas 10. Only the moose area shares a county with this one. A license is good only in the hunt area of its own species, so this page is about the bighorn sheep area, and the cards at the foot of the page link the others.
Ground WGFD opens: Whiskey Basin
WGFD administers the Whiskey Basin Wildlife Habitat Management Area (12,833 acres) inside or across the line. Public Access Areas such as Wind River-Jakey's Fork and Wind River-Sawmill are public ways onto water and land; check what each allows before you count on it for hunting.
Wilderness inside the line: Fitzpatrick Wilderness and Bridger Wilderness
About 21% of bighorn sheep hunt area 10 lies in the Fitzpatrick Wilderness and 3% of bighorn sheep hunt area 10 lies in the Bridger Wilderness. WGFD's 2026 regulations print the rule that matters there: no nonresident may hunt big game in a designated wilderness area unless accompanied by a licensed professional guide or a resident guide, with at least one guide for every two nonresident hunters. Inside the wilderness there are no roads, so every animal there comes out on your back or on a horse.
High ground inside the line: Shale Mountain, Spider Peak and Torrey Peak
Named high points inside bighorn sheep hunt area 10 include Shale Mountain at 12,361 feet, Spider Peak at 12,205 feet, Torrey Peak at 12,159 feet, Middle Mountain at 11,863 feet and Square Top Mountain at 11,571 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Sheep need rock to escape into and will not stand far from it.
Holding ground: Union Pass, Ryan Park and Fish Creek Park
Below them sit Union Pass at 9,213 feet, Ryan Park at 9,173 feet, Fish Creek Park at 8,946 feet, Geyser Creek Park at 8,785 feet and Bomber Basin at 8,551 feet. These are the folds worth watching, and the ones other hunters walk past.

Search Wyoming Draw OddsWyoming Game and Fish's 2026 demand report for bighorn sheep in bighorn sheep hunt area 10, residents and nonresidents kept apart because they draw from different license pools:
- Type 1 (any ram), residents: 133 first-choice applicants for 1 license, 0.8% drawn
- Type 1 (any ram), nonresidents: 22 first-choice applicants for 0 licenses, 0% drawn
WGFD draws full-price bighorn sheep licenses partly on preference points, for residents and nonresidents alike, highest balance first (Chapter 44, Section 19); the figures above are from its random draw. Drawing a full-price license deletes your bighorn sheep points, and after a full-price bighorn sheep license from the initial drawing you may not apply for one again. WGFD publishes no preference-point level at which a hunt draws, so none is given here. Every figure was checked against WGFD's demand-report PDFs on 2026-08-10.
