Where to Find Pronghorn in Antelope Hunt Area 46

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names antelope hunt area 46 "Kyle". It runs to about 398 square miles, in Carbon (89%) and Albany (11%) counties. WGFD reports these pronghorn as the Medicine Bow herd unit, which also takes in antelope hunt areas 30, 31, 32, 42, 47 and 48. WGFD prints the line and counts the harvest. It doesn't say where inside the line the pronghorn live, so that part is our read of the ground, labelled as such.

Where antelope hunt area 46 begins and ends

WGFD's 2026 Chapter 5 walks the line around antelope hunt area 46 corner by corner. It starts where U.S. Highway 30 intersects Wyoming Highway 72. On the way round it follows U.S. Highway 30, Wyoming Highway 72, Wyoming Highway 13 and Interstate Highway 80, and Rock Creek. Read it as the legal edge of your license rather than as a hint about animals. The full text is in Section 5 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.

Not the same ground as the other hunt area 46s

WGFD numbers each species' hunt areas on its own grid, so the number 46 also belongs to its deer hunt area 46. None of it shares a county with this one. A license is good only in the hunt area of its own species, so this page is about the antelope area, and the cards at the foot of the page link the others.

Ground WGFD opens: Wick Brothers/Beumee and Simpson Ridge

WGFD administers the Wick Brothers/Beumee Wildlife Habitat Management Area (23,408 acres) inside or across the line. Its Access Yes program enrolls 2 Hunter Management Areas here that list antelope among their species — Simpson Ridge (42,168 acres) and Medicine Bow River (23,094 acres). WGFD's 2026 regulations open Access Yes land only for the species and dates listed for each area, with each area's own rules on WGFD's site and no motorized travel unless WGFD says otherwise. Public Access Areas such as East Allen Lake (2 acres) and Rock Creek (1 acres) are public ways onto water and land; check what each allows before you count on it for hunting.

High ground inside the line: Sheepherder Hill, Simpson Ridge and Bear Creek Ridge

Named high points inside antelope hunt area 46 include Sheepherder Hill at 7,962 feet, Simpson Ridge at 7,818 feet, Bear Creek Ridge at 7,475 feet, Pine Ridge at 7,472 feet and Saddleback Hills at 7,465 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Pronghorn live in the open and trust their eyes, which is the whole problem.

Holding ground: Spade Flats, Chapman Draw and Calvin Bend

Below them sit Spade Flats at 6,747 feet, Chapman Draw at 6,717 feet, Calvin Bend at 6,713 feet, Upper Foote Creek Flats at 7,491 feet and Simpson Gap at 7,122 feet. These are the folds worth watching, and the ones other hunters walk past.

Water: Sulphur Springs, Upper Fourmile Spring and Jacks Spring

Named water inside the line includes Sulphur Springs, Upper Fourmile Spring, Jacks Spring, Rolling Springs, Cronberg Spring and Barrel Spring. Nothing in the data says which of it runs in autumn, so a scouting trip earns its fuel.

Wyoming Game and Fish's 2026 demand report for pronghorn in antelope hunt area 46, residents and nonresidents kept apart because they draw from different license pools:

  • Type 1 (any antelope), residents: 218 first-choice applicants for 115 licenses, 52.8% drawn
  • Type 1 (any antelope), nonresidents: 190 first-choice applicants for 4 licenses, 2.1% drawn
  • Type 2 (any antelope), residents: 57 first-choice applicants for 80 licenses, 100% drawn
  • Type 2 (any antelope), nonresidents: 38 first-choice applicants for 3 licenses, 7.9% drawn

Wyoming residents draw pronghorn licenses without preference points; nonresidents draw part of their quota on points, highest balance first (Chapter 44, Section 19), and the nonresident figures above are from WGFD's random draw. WGFD publishes no preference-point level at which a hunt draws, so none is given here. Every figure was checked against WGFD's demand-report PDFs on 2026-08-10.
