Where to Find Pronghorn in Antelope Hunt Area 20

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names antelope hunt area 20 "Upper Powder River". It runs to about 818 square miles, almost all of it in Johnson County. WGFD reports these pronghorn as the Hazelton herd unit, which also takes in antelope hunt area 102. What WGFD publishes for the area is its boundary and its harvest; where the pronghorn stand inside it is our reading of the ground, and the two are kept apart below.

The line: Barnum Mountain, Canyon Creek and Crazy Woman Canyon

WGFD's 2026 Chapter 5 walks the line around antelope hunt area 20 corner by corner. It starts at the junction of the Trabing Road (Johnson County Road 13) and Interstate Highway 25. On the way round it follows Johnson County Road 13, Interstate Highway 25, Wyoming Highway 191 and Wyoming Highway 190, and Barnum Mountain, Canyon Creek and Crazy Woman Canyon. Read it as the legal edge of your license rather than as a hint about animals. The full text is in Section 5 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.

Not the same ground as the other hunt area 20s

WGFD numbers each species' hunt areas on its own grid, so the number 20 also belongs to its moose and bighorn sheep hunt areas 20. None of them shares a county with this one. A license is good only in the hunt area of its own species, so this page is about the antelope area, and the cards at the foot of the page link the others.

Ground WGFD opens: Johnson 10

WGFD also lists one Walk-In Area covering about 14 acres open for antelope: Johnson 10. WGFD's 2026 regulations open Access Yes land only for the species and dates listed for each area, with each area's own rules on WGFD's site and no motorized travel unless WGFD says otherwise. Public Access Areas such as Beartrap Creek/Pheasant (79 acres) and Dull Knife Reservoir (1 acres) are public ways onto water and land; check what each allows before you count on it for hunting.

High ground inside the line: Hazelton Pyramid, Hesse Mountain and Hazelton Peak

Named high points inside antelope hunt area 20 include Hazelton Pyramid at 10,500 feet, Hesse Mountain at 10,362 feet, Hazelton Peak at 10,232 feet, Tabletop at 8,500 feet and Gardner Mountain at 8,419 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Pronghorn stay on the open rolling ground and leave the timber alone.

Holding ground: Larramandy Draw, Snowdrift Draw and Wolf Den Draw

Below them sit Larramandy Draw at 7,601 feet, Snowdrift Draw at 7,228 feet, Wolf Den Draw at 7,133 feet, School Section Draw at 6,887 feet and Cash Canyon at 6,775 feet. Those are the basins and bottoms of the area, and they are what you glass into from above.

Water: Charlie Brown Spring, Curutchet Spring and Dancehall Spring

Named water inside the line includes Charlie Brown Spring, Curutchet Spring, Dancehall Spring, Fishers Spring, Hammond Spring and Middle Spring. Nothing in the data says which of it runs in autumn, so a scouting trip earns its fuel.

Wyoming Game and Fish's 2026 demand report for pronghorn in antelope hunt area 20, residents and nonresidents kept apart because they draw from different license pools:

  • Type 1 (any antelope), nonresidents: 183 first-choice applicants for 32 licenses, 17.5% drawn
  • Type 1 (any antelope), residents: 75 first-choice applicants for 239 licenses, 100% drawn

Wyoming residents draw pronghorn licenses without preference points; nonresidents draw part of their quota on points, highest balance first (Chapter 44, Section 19), and the nonresident figures above are from WGFD's random draw. WGFD publishes no preference-point level at which a hunt draws, so none is given here. Every figure was checked against WGFD's demand-report PDFs on 2026-08-10.
