Where to Find Pronghorn in Antelope Hunt Area 115

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names antelope hunt area 115 "Upper Nowood". It runs to about 1,013 square miles, in Washakie (87%), Natrona (6%) and Johnson (5%) counties. WGFD reports these pronghorn as the Copper Mountain herd unit, which also takes in antelope hunt areas 76, 79 and 114. WGFD prints the line and counts the harvest. It doesn't say where inside the line the pronghorn live, so that part is our read of the ground, labelled as such.

The line: Canyon Creek, Bighorn Mountain and North Fork

WGFD's 2026 Chapter 5 walks the line around antelope hunt area 115 corner by corner. It starts at the junction of the Blue Bank Road and U.S. Highway 16. On the way round it follows U.S. Highway 16, U.S.F.S. Road 25, U.S.F.S. Road 452 and Johnson County Road 3, and Canyon Creek, Bighorn Mountain, North Fork and Buffalo Creek. That is a legal description, not a habitat map, and it is the text a warden reads you against. The full text is in Section 5 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.

Not the same ground as the other hunt area 115s

WGFD numbers each species' hunt areas on its own grid, so the number 115 also belongs to its deer hunt area 115. None of it shares a county with this one. A license is good only in the hunt area of its own species, so this page is about the antelope area, and the cards at the foot of the page link the others.

Ground WGFD opens: Upper Nowood and Deep Creek

Its Access Yes program enrolls 2 Hunter Management Areas here that list antelope among their species — Upper Nowood (3,982 acres) and Deep Creek (2,000 acres). WGFD also lists one Walk-In Area covering about 2,202 acres open for antelope: Fremont 30. WGFD's 2026 regulations open Access Yes land only for the species and dates listed for each area, with each area's own rules on WGFD's site and no motorized travel unless WGFD says otherwise. Public Access Areas such as Beartrap Creek/Pheasant (79 acres) and Wigwam Rearing Station (962 acres) are public ways onto water and land; check what each allows before you count on it for hunting.

High ground inside the line: Cherry Creek Hill, Monument Hill and Canyon Ridge

Named high points inside antelope hunt area 115 include Cherry Creek Hill at 8,497 feet, Monument Hill at 8,090 feet, Canyon Ridge at 7,887 feet, Devils Slide at 7,526 feet and Horse Butte at 7,435 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Pronghorn stay on the open rolling ground and leave the timber alone.

Holding ground: Leigh Creek Vee, Canyon Creek Sinks and Sioux Pass

Below them sit Leigh Creek Vee at 7,606 feet, Canyon Creek Sinks at 7,400 feet, Sioux Pass at 7,140 feet, Onion Gulch at 7,054 feet and Walker Hill at 6,871 feet. Those are the basins and bottoms of the area, and they are what you glass into from above.

Reading the land status

Named ground inside antelope hunt area 115 runs from 4,411 feet to 9,657 feet — more than 4,000 feet between the named features alone, so the season you draw decides which part of it you hunt.

Wyoming Game and Fish's 2026 demand report for pronghorn in antelope hunt area 115, residents and nonresidents kept apart because they draw from different license pools:

  • Type 1 (any antelope), residents: 332 first-choice applicants for 106 licenses, 31.9% drawn
  • Type 1 (any antelope), nonresidents: 181 first-choice applicants for 3 licenses, 1.7% drawn

Wyoming residents draw pronghorn licenses without preference points; nonresidents draw part of their quota on points, highest balance first (Chapter 44, Section 19), and the nonresident figures above are from WGFD's random draw. WGFD publishes no preference-point level at which a hunt draws, so none is given here. Every figure was checked against WGFD's demand-report PDFs on 2026-08-10.
