Where to Find Pronghorn in Antelope Hunt Area 70

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names antelope hunt area 70 "Kendrick". It runs to about 128 square miles, entirely in Natrona County. WGFD reports these pronghorn as the Rattlesnake herd unit, which also takes in antelope hunt areas 71 and 72. WGFD prints the line and counts the harvest. It doesn't say where inside the line the pronghorn live, so that part is our read of the ground, labelled as such.

The line: North Platte River, Alcova Dam and Blue Gulch

WGFD's 2026 Chapter 5 walks the line around antelope hunt area 70 corner by corner. It starts at the crossing of the North Platte River and Poplar Street in the city of Casper. On the way round it follows Natrona County Road 407, Wyoming Highway 220 and U.S. Highway 20-26, and North Platte River, Alcova Dam and Blue Gulch. Read it as the legal edge of your license rather than as a hint about animals. The full text is in Section 5 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.

Not the same ground as the other hunt area 70s

WGFD numbers each species' hunt areas on its own grid, so the number 70 also belongs to its elk and deer hunt areas 70. None of them shares a county with this one. A license is good only in the hunt area of its own species, so this page is about the antelope area, and the cards at the foot of the page link the others.

Ground WGFD opens: Natrona 17 and Natrona 12

WGFD also lists 2 Walk-In Areas covering about 12,481 acres open for antelope, among them Natrona 17 and Natrona 12. WGFD's 2026 regulations open Access Yes land only for the species and dates listed for each area, with each area's own rules on WGFD's site and no motorized travel unless WGFD says otherwise. Public Access Areas such as North Platte River-Hartnett (5 acres) and North Platte River-Sechrist (82 acres) are public ways onto water and land; check what each allows before you count on it for hunting.

High ground inside the line: Bessemer Mountain

Named high points inside antelope hunt area 70 include Bessemer Mountain at 6,353 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Pronghorn live in the open and trust their eyes, which is the whole problem.

Holding ground: Petes Draw, Clevidence Draw and Lone Tree Gulch

Below them sit Petes Draw at 5,311 feet, Clevidence Draw at 5,304 feet, Lone Tree Gulch at 5,298 feet, S Gulch at 5,294 feet and Schrader Gulch at 5,290 feet. Those are the basins and bottoms of the area, and they are what you glass into from above.

Water: Goose Egg Spring

Named water inside the line includes Goose Egg Spring. Nothing in the data says which of it runs in autumn, so a scouting trip earns its fuel.

Reading the land status

Named ground inside antelope hunt area 70 runs from 5,290 feet to 6,353 feet. Those are the heights of the features GNIS names, which bound the range from inside rather than measure it.

Pronghorn Success Rates

Wyoming Game and Fish's 2025 harvest report estimates 102.1% pronghorn success in antelope hunt area 70: 99 animals taken by 97 active hunters over 408 days of hunting, or 4.1 days per animal. By residency, residents 90.8% (69 taken by 76) and nonresidents 142.9% (30 taken by 21). The figure passes 100% because WGFD counts animals taken over hunters, and its Chapter 2 lets one hunter hold a full-price license and up to four reduced-price doe/fawn licenses.

These are WGFD's own estimates from its hunter survey, for this hunt area and season only — not a statewide average. One season isn't a trend, so check the current report before you read one into it.

Wyoming Game and Fish's 2026 demand report for pronghorn in antelope hunt area 70, residents and nonresidents kept apart because they draw from different license pools:

  • Type 1 (any antelope), residents: 62 first-choice applicants for 78 licenses, 100% drawn
  • Type 1 (any antelope), nonresidents: 40 first-choice applicants for 3 licenses, 7.5% drawn

Wyoming residents draw pronghorn licenses without preference points; nonresidents draw part of their quota on points, highest balance first (Chapter 44, Section 19), and the nonresident figures above are from WGFD's random draw. WGFD publishes no preference-point level at which a hunt draws, so none is given here. Every figure was checked against WGFD's demand-report PDFs on 2026-08-10.
