Where to Find Pronghorn in Antelope Hunt Area 32

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names antelope hunt area 32 "Bates Creek". It runs to about 709 square miles, in Natrona (83%) and Carbon (16%) counties. WGFD reports these pronghorn as the Medicine Bow herd unit, which also takes in antelope hunt areas 30, 31, 42, 46, 47 and 48. What WGFD publishes for the area is its boundary and its harvest; where the pronghorn stand inside it is our reading of the ground, and the two are kept apart below.

The line: Pathfinder Dam, North Platte River and Casper Mountain

WGFD's 2026 Chapter 5 walks the line around antelope hunt area 32 corner by corner. It starts where the Pathfinder Dam crosses the North Platte River. On the way round it follows Wyoming Highway 220, Wyoming Highway 258, Wyoming Highway 251 and Natrona County Road 505, and Pathfinder Dam, North Platte River, Casper Mountain and Red Creek. It is the description your license is good inside, so it is worth reading once in full before you go. The full text is in Section 5 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.

Not the same ground as the other hunt area 32s

WGFD numbers each species' hunt areas on its own grid, so the number 32 also belongs to its elk, deer and moose hunt areas 32. None of them shares a county with this one. A license is good only in the hunt area of its own species, so this page is about the antelope area, and the cards at the foot of the page link the others.

Ground WGFD opens: Muddy Mountain and Natrona 161

Its Access Yes program enrolls a Hunter Management Area here that list antelope among their species — Muddy Mountain (46,195 acres). WGFD also lists 2 Walk-In Areas covering about 5,664 acres open for antelope, among them Natrona 161 and Natrona 26. WGFD's 2026 regulations open Access Yes land only for the species and dates listed for each area, with each area's own rules on WGFD's site and no motorized travel unless WGFD says otherwise. Public Access Areas such as North Platte River-Hartnett (5 acres) and North Platte River-By the Way Ranch are public ways onto water and land; check what each allows before you count on it for hunting.

High ground inside the line: Casper Mountain, Chalk Mountain and Ice Cave Mountain

Named high points inside antelope hunt area 32 include Casper Mountain at 8,176 feet, Chalk Mountain at 7,992 feet, Ice Cave Mountain at 7,761 feet, Horse Peak at 7,547 feet and Bear Mountain at 7,520 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Pronghorn stay on the open rolling ground and leave the timber alone.

Holding ground: Sand Draw, Bates Hole and Fremont Canyon

Below them sit Sand Draw at 5,887 feet, Bates Hole at 5,571 feet, Fremont Canyon at 5,501 feet, Gotheberg Draw at 5,400 feet and Jackson Canyon at 5,395 feet. Those are the basins and bottoms of the area, and they are what you glass into from above.

Reading the land status

Named ground inside antelope hunt area 32 runs from 5,160 feet to 8,176 feet. Those are the heights of the features GNIS names, which bound the range from inside rather than measure it.

Wyoming Game and Fish's 2026 demand report for pronghorn in antelope hunt area 32, residents and nonresidents kept apart because they draw from different license pools:

  • Type 1 (any antelope), nonresidents: 502 first-choice applicants for 16 licenses, 3.2% drawn

Wyoming residents draw pronghorn licenses without preference points; nonresidents draw part of their quota on points, highest balance first (Chapter 44, Section 19), and the nonresident figures above are from WGFD's random draw. WGFD publishes no preference-point level at which a hunt draws, so none is given here. Every figure was checked against WGFD's demand-report PDFs on 2026-08-10.
