Unit 205 - 208 (Gabbs Valley Range, Candelaria Hills and Pilot Mountains)
Nevada Hunting Guide — Pronghorn
Units 205 - 208 cover about 3,069 square miles of Mineral and Esmeralda counties, from the Gabbs Valley Range through the Candelaria Hills and Pilot Mountains. NDOW's pronghorn sheet describes a small herd rebuilt by transplants in the late 1980s and early 1990s, living on marginal habitat. Animals are mobile and widely scattered, so scouting means a lot of driving.

Where to Find Pronghorn in Units 205 - 208: Gabbs Valley Range, Teels Marsh and the Candelaria Hills
Ranges, flats and a marsh on NDOW's list
NDOW's pronghorn sheet for this group gives a long list of places rather than a single hot spot. On the higher ground, it names the Gabbs Valley Range, the Candelaria Hills, the southern end of Pilot Mountain and the Garfield Hills. On the flats and valleys, it lists Sunrise Flats, Whiskey Flats, Win Wan Flat, Stewart Valley and Huntoon Valley. Teels Marsh and Paint Rock round it out.
Water developments and springs
The sheet's last pointer covers the whole group: pronghorn are associated with all the water developments and spring locations. That's the thread running through the list. Whichever flat or range you pick, find its water first.
NDOW's biologist notes explain why the list is so broad. The herd in Unit 205 was re-established by transplants in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and habitat across the area is considered marginal for pronghorn, so the herd isn't large. The animals are very mobile and broadly dispersed. Expect them to move between the named places, and use your scouting to learn which flats, and which water, they're using that season.
The ground NDOW draws for this tag
A pronghorn tag for this group is good in units 205, 206, 207 and 208, about 3,069 square miles measured on NDOW's own boundary, in Mineral County and Esmeralda County. The named ranges inside the line are Candelaria Hills, Huntoon Mountains, Pilot Mountains, Terrill Mountains, Cedar Mountains and Koegel Hills. The highest named points are Pilot Peak (9,170 ft), Moho Mountain (8,796 ft) and Miller Mountain (8,721 ft), and the lowest named ground sits near 3,961 feet. We don't print a land-status split for Nevada groups, because the figures we held didn't come from BLM's surface-management data; check BLM's current map for private parcels before you cross a fence or a cattle guard. GNIS names 101 springs inside it, Simon Spring, Sagundai Spring, Graham Spring and Silver Dyke Spring among them.
