Unit 032 (Pine Forest Range and the Pueblo Mountains)

Windy Point to Black Mountain

NDOW sees plenty of opportunity in this unit. Huntable bighorn populations run the full length of the Pine Forest Range, from Windy Point on its southernmost edge to Black Mountain on the north end.

Big, Pass, Cherry and Boyd Creeks on the east side

Many of the canyons on the range's east side hold huntable sheep. Big, Pass, Cherry and Boyd creeks have all produced in the past. So have Sentinel Peak and the Bishop, Buckaroo and Dyke canyons, all on that same east side.

Mahogany Mountain, Knott Creek Reservoir and the Pueblos

To the north, Mahogany Mountain offers chances of its own. On the southwest side, the stretch from New York Peak to Knott Creek Reservoir has more limited opportunities. The unit also takes in the Nevada portion of the Pueblo Mountains along the Oregon border, and NDOW says that country will hold rams.

Put together, that's a long list of named canyons and peaks for one tag. Use it to plan glassing points along the east face first, where NDOW names the most productive drainages, before you spread out to the north end, the southwest side or the Pueblos.

A bighorn sheep tag for this group is good in unit 032, about 622 square miles measured on NDOW's own boundary, in Humboldt County. The one named range inside the line is Pine Forest Range. The highest named points are Duffer Peak (9,401 ft), Mahogany Mountain (7,911 ft) and New York Peak (7,891 ft), and the lowest named ground sits near 4,199 feet. We don't print a land-status split for Nevada groups, because the figures we held didn't come from BLM's surface-management data; check BLM's current map for private parcels before you cross a fence or a cattle guard. GNIS names 35 springs inside it, Lone Meadow Spring, Gridley Springs, West Spring and Chokecherry Spring among them.
