Where to Find Pronghorn in Units 032, 034: Leonard Creek Basin and the North Black Rock Range

Unit 032: Leonard Creek Basin and the Pine Forest drainages

In the 032 half of the group, NDOW's first suggestion is Leonard Creek Basin, a big piece of country with several drainages to work. Don't skip the east side of the Pine Forest Range either. Pronghorn there use the ridgelines that run east along drainages such as Big Creek and Pass Creek.

Densities drop near the Pueblo Mountains along the Oregon border, around Alberson Basin. Continental Lake is a conditional spot: when it holds water, pronghorn sometimes stay close to it.

Unit 034: Bartlett Peak, the dry lake and the springs beyond

For 034, the sheet sends you to the very north end of the Black Rock Range. The country from behind Bartlett Peak up toward the dry lake carries most of the use. North of the dry lake, animals work the many isolated springs, and that's the reason NDOW gives for how scattered pronghorn can be in this unit: plenty of springs means plenty of places to be. They range high, too, as far up as Big Mountain toward the south end of the range and on to the Rough Canyon area. Expect to glass a lot of empty ground between groups.

The ground NDOW draws for this tag

A pronghorn tag for this group is good in units 032 and 034, about 2,036 square miles measured on NDOW's own boundary, in Humboldt County. The named ranges inside the line are Pine Forest Range and Black Rock Range. The highest named points are Duffer Peak (9,401 ft), Big Mountain (8,579 ft) and Summit Lake Mountain (8,103 ft), and the lowest named ground sits near 3,906 feet. We don't print a land-status split for Nevada groups, because the figures we held didn't come from BLM's surface-management data; check BLM's current map for private parcels before you cross a fence or a cattle guard. GNIS names 88 springs inside it, Lone Meadow Spring, Gridley Springs, Cane Springs and Indian Springs among them.
