Where to Find White-Tailed Deer in Deer Hunt Area 148
The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names deer hunt area 148 "Teton". It runs to about 684 square miles, in Teton (83%) and Fremont (17%) counties. The boundary and the harvest figures are WGFD's. The read of the country inside them is ours, and it says so where it starts.
The line: Buffalo Fork River, Continental Divide and Togwotee Pass
WGFD's 2026 Chapter 6 walks the line around deer hunt area 148 corner by corner. It starts where U.S. Highway 26-287 crosses the western bank of the Buffalo Fork River at the private land boundary of the Pinto Ranch. On the way round it follows U.S. Highway 26-287, and Buffalo Fork River, Continental Divide and Togwotee Pass. It is the description your license is good inside, so it is worth reading once in full before you go. The full text is in Section 7 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.
Wilderness inside the line: Teton Wilderness
About 86% of deer hunt area 148 lies in the Teton Wilderness. WGFD's 2026 regulations print the rule that matters there: no nonresident may hunt big game in a designated wilderness area unless accompanied by a licensed professional guide or a resident guide, with at least one guide for every two nonresident hunters. Inside the wilderness there are no roads, so every animal there comes out on your back or on a horse.
High ground inside the line: Breccia Peak, Soda Mountain and Breccia Cliffs
Named high points inside deer hunt area 148 include Breccia Peak at 10,985 feet, Soda Mountain at 10,778 feet, Breccia Cliffs at 10,692 feet, Smokehouse Mountain at 10,640 feet and Angle Mountain at 10,596 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. White-tailed deer hold to cover — river bottoms, brushy draws and timber edges — and rarely stray far from it.
Holding ground: Brown Meadows, Fox Park Flat and Two Ocean Pass
Below them sit Brown Meadows at 8,281 feet, Fox Park Flat at 8,189 feet, Two Ocean Pass at 8,136 feet, Pendergraft Meadow at 8,089 feet and Fourmile Meadow at 7,867 feet. These are the folds worth watching, and the ones other hunters walk past.
Water: Soda Springs, North Fork Falls and Lake Fork Falls
Named water inside the line includes Soda Springs, North Fork Falls, Lake Fork Falls, Huckleberry Hot Springs and Big Springs. Nothing in the data says which of it runs in autumn, so a scouting trip earns its fuel.
Reading the land status
Named ground inside deer hunt area 148 runs from 6,782 feet to 10,985 feet — more than 4,000 feet between the named features alone, so the season you draw decides which part of it you hunt.
