Where to Find Mule Deer in Deer Hunt Area 141

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names deer hunt area 141 "Green River". It runs to about 507 square miles, almost all of it in Sublette County. WGFD reports these mule deer as the Sublette herd unit, which also takes in deer hunt areas 130, 131, 138, 139, 140, 142, 150 and 151 and 4 more. The boundary and the harvest figures are WGFD's. The read of the country inside them is ours, and it says so where it starts.

The line: Green River, Hoback River and Gros Ventre River

WGFD's 2026 Chapter 6 walks the line around deer hunt area 141 corner by corner. It starts where U.S. Highway 191 crosses the Green River at Warren Bridge. On the way round it follows U.S. Highway 191, U.S.F.S. Road 620 and U.S.F.S. Road 600, and Green River, Hoback River, Gros Ventre River and Hodges Peak. Read it as the legal edge of your license rather than as a hint about animals. The full text is in Section 7 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.

Ground WGFD opens: Public Access Areas

Public Access Areas such as Green River-Warren Bridge # 2 (40 acres) and Green River-Warren Bridge Parking Area # 8,9 (95 acres) are public ways onto water and land; check what each allows before you count on it for hunting.

Wilderness inside the line: Bridger Wilderness and Gros Ventre Wilderness

About 29% of deer hunt area 141 lies in the Bridger Wilderness and 8% of deer hunt area 141 lies in the Gros Ventre Wilderness. WGFD's 2026 regulations print the rule that matters there: no nonresident may hunt big game in a designated wilderness area unless accompanied by a licensed professional guide or a resident guide, with at least one guide for every two nonresident hunters. Inside the wilderness there are no roads, so every animal there comes out on your back or on a horse.

High ground inside the line: Mount Helen, Dinwoody Peak and Mount Woodrow Wilson

Named high points inside deer hunt area 141 include Mount Helen at 13,537 feet, Dinwoody Peak at 13,497 feet, Mount Woodrow Wilson at 13,467 feet, Flagstone Peak at 13,418 feet and Rampart Peak at 13,372 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Mule deer bed on broken ground with a view and feed on the brush below it.

Holding ground: Cube Rock Pass, Porcupine Pass and Green River Pass

Below them sit Cube Rock Pass at 10,718 feet, Porcupine Pass at 10,705 feet, Green River Pass at 10,369 feet, Vista Pass at 10,133 feet and Gunsight Pass at 10,116 feet. That is the low ground — where animals drop when they are pushed or when the weather turns.

Water: Gypsum Spring, Fish Bowl Spring and Kendall Warm Spring

Named water inside the line includes Gypsum Spring, Fish Bowl Spring, Kendall Warm Spring and Stinky Spring. Nothing in the data says which of it runs in autumn, so a scouting trip earns its fuel.

Reading the land status

Named ground inside deer hunt area 141 runs from 7,800 feet to 13,537 feet — more than 4,000 feet between the named features alone, so the season you draw decides which part of it you hunt.

Wyoming Game and Fish's 2026 demand report for mule deer in deer hunt area 141, residents and nonresidents kept apart because they draw from different license pools:

  • Type 1, residents: 1,056 first-choice applicants for 58 licenses, 5.5% drawn
  • Type 1, nonresidents: 103 first-choice applicants for 1 license, 1% drawn

Wyoming residents draw mule deer licenses without preference points; nonresidents draw part of their quota on points, highest balance first (Chapter 44, Section 19), and the nonresident figures above are from WGFD's random draw. WGFD publishes no preference-point level at which a hunt draws, so none is given here. Every figure was checked against WGFD's demand-report PDFs on 2026-08-10.
