Where to Find White-Tailed Deer in Deer Hunt Area 124
The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names deer hunt area 124 "Emblem". It runs to about 501 square miles, entirely in Big Horn County. WGFD reports these white-tailed deer as the Bighorn Basin herd unit, which also takes in deer hunt areas 35, 37, 39, 40, 41, 46, 47 and 50 and 24 more. The boundary and the harvest figures are WGFD's. The read of the country inside them is ours, and it says so where it starts.
The line: Antelope Creek, Elk Creek and Dorsey Creek
WGFD's 2026 Chapter 6 walks the line around deer hunt area 124 corner by corner. It starts in the town of Greybull. On the way round it follows U.S. Highway 16-20, B.L.M. Road 1222, Park County Road 3X and Park County Road 3L, and Antelope Creek, Elk Creek, Dorsey Creek and Fifteen Mile Creek. That is a legal description, not a habitat map, and it is the text a warden reads you against. The full text is in Section 7 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.
Not the same ground as the other hunt area 124s
WGFD numbers each species' hunt areas on its own grid, so the number 124 also belongs to its elk hunt area 124. None of it shares a county with this one. A license is good only in the hunt area of its own species, so this page is about the deer area, and the cards at the foot of the page link the others.
Ground WGFD opens: Big Horn 61 and Big Horn 59
WGFD also lists 16 Walk-In Areas covering about 7,717 acres open for deer, among them Big Horn 61, Big Horn 59 and Big Horn 60. WGFD's 2026 regulations open Access Yes land only for the species and dates listed for each area, with each area's own rules on WGFD's site and no motorized travel unless WGFD says otherwise.
High ground inside the line: Bridger Butte, Table Mountain and Emblem Bench
Named high points inside deer hunt area 124 include Bridger Butte at 4,966 feet, Table Mountain at 4,744 feet, Emblem Bench at 4,534 feet, Gould Butte at 4,465 feet and Three Sisters at 4,405 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. White-tailed deer on farm country live in the cover strips between fields and feed out at the edges of the day.
Holding ground: Horseshoe Draw, White Gulch and Fenton Draw
Below them sit Horseshoe Draw at 4,034 feet, White Gulch at 4,013 feet, Fenton Draw at 4,703 feet, Bighorn Basin at 4,351 feet and Emblem Draw at 4,218 feet. That is the low ground — where animals drop when they are pushed or when the weather turns.
Reading the land status
Named ground inside deer hunt area 124 runs from 4,013 feet to 4,966 feet. Those are the heights of the features GNIS names, which bound the range from inside rather than measure it.
