What WGFD publishes for the area is its boundary and its harvest; where the pronghorn stand inside it is our reading of the ground, and the two are kept apart below.

The line: Deer Creek, Dry Creek and Coal Creek

WGFD's 2026 Chapter 5 walks the line around antelope hunt area 68 corner by corner. It starts at the junction of U.S. Highway 287 and the Ore Road (Fremont County Road 5). On the way round it follows U.S. Highway 287, Fremont County Road 5, Natrona County Road 321 and Wyoming Highway 220, and Deer Creek, Dry Creek, Coal Creek and Whiskey Peak. Read it as the legal edge of your license rather than as a hint about animals. The full text is in Section 5 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.

Not the same ground as the other hunt area 68s

WGFD numbers each species' hunt areas on its own grid, so the number 68 also belongs to its elk hunt area 68. Their lines overlap this area in places and depart from it in others. A license is good only in the hunt area of its own species, so this page is about the antelope area, and the cards at the foot of the page link the others.

Ground WGFD opens: Fremont 28

WGFD also lists one Walk-In Area covering about 3,400 acres open for antelope: Fremont 28. WGFD's 2026 regulations open Access Yes land only for the species and dates listed for each area, with each area's own rules on WGFD's site and no motorized travel unless WGFD says otherwise.

High ground inside the line: Green Mountain, Whiskey Ridge and Black Mountain

Named high points inside antelope hunt area 68 include Green Mountain at 9,217 feet, Whiskey Ridge at 9,025 feet, Black Mountain at 8,042 feet, McIntosh Peak at 8,023 feet and Owl Hills at 7,916 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Pronghorn stay on the open rolling ground and leave the timber alone.

Holding ground: Dirty Gap, Barlow Gap and Crilly Gap

Below them sit Dirty Gap at 6,942 feet, Barlow Gap at 6,934 feet, Crilly Gap at 6,850 feet, Wolf Gap at 6,833 feet and Agate Flats at 6,824 feet. These are the folds worth watching, and the ones other hunters walk past.

Water: Cold Spring, Lamoreaux Cabin Springs and Middle Diamond Spring

Named water inside the line includes Cold Spring, Lamoreaux Cabin Springs, Middle Diamond Spring, Barrel Spring, Big Diamond Spring and East Diamond Springs. Nothing in the data says which of it runs in autumn, so a scouting trip earns its fuel.

Reading the land status

Named ground inside antelope hunt area 68 runs from 5,944 feet to 9,217 feet. Those are the heights of the features GNIS names, which bound the range from inside rather than measure it.

Wyoming Game and Fish's 2026 demand report for pronghorn in antelope hunt area 68, residents and nonresidents kept apart because they draw from different license pools:

  • Type 1 (any antelope), residents: 822 first-choice applicants for 193 licenses, 23.5% drawn
  • Type 1 (any antelope), nonresidents: 345 first-choice applicants for 6 licenses, 1.7% drawn

Wyoming residents draw pronghorn licenses without preference points; nonresidents draw part of their quota on points, highest balance first (Chapter 44, Section 19), and the nonresident figures above are from WGFD's random draw. WGFD publishes no preference-point level at which a hunt draws, so none is given here. Every figure was checked against WGFD's demand-report PDFs on 2026-08-10.
