Where to Find Pronghorn in Antelope Hunt Area 38

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names antelope hunt area 38 "Iron Mountain". It runs to about 2,357 square miles, in Albany (41%), Laramie (35%) and Platte (24%) counties. WGFD reports these pronghorn as the Iron Mountain herd unit, and no other hunt area shares it. What WGFD publishes for the area is its boundary and its harvest; where the pronghorn stand inside it is our reading of the ground, and the two are kept apart below.

Where antelope hunt area 38 begins and ends

WGFD's 2026 Chapter 5 defines antelope hunt area 38 as beginning in the city of Laramie and U.S. Highway 30; northerly along said highway to where U.S. Highway 30 crosses the Laramie River; northeasterly down said river to Interstate Highway 25; southerly along said highway to Interstate Highway 80; westerly along said highway to the city of Laramie. It is the description your license is good inside, so it is worth reading once in full before you go. The full text is in Section 5 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.

Not the same ground as the other hunt area 38s

WGFD numbers each species' hunt areas on its own grid, so the number 38 also belongs to its elk and moose hunt areas 38. Only the moose area shares a county with this one. A license is good only in the hunt area of its own species, so this page is about the antelope area, and the cards at the foot of the page link the others.

Ground WGFD opens: Tom Thorne/Beth Williams and Pilot Hill

WGFD administers 4 Wildlife Habitat Management Areas inside or across the line, including Tom Thorne/Beth Williams (2,961 acres), Pilot Hill (3,012 acres) and Laramie Peak (37,114 acres). Its Access Yes program enrolls 4 Hunter Management Areas here that list antelope among their species — FE Warren (2,078 acres), Morton Pass (5,666 acres) and North Crow (6,215 acres). WGFD also lists 4 Walk-In Areas covering about 2,091 acres open for antelope, among them Platte 48, Platte 44 and Albany 11. WGFD's 2026 regulations open Access Yes land only for the species and dates listed for each area, with each area's own rules on WGFD's site and no motorized travel unless WGFD says otherwise.

High ground inside the line: Pole Mountain, Sherman Mountains and Point Crawford

Named high points inside antelope hunt area 38 include Pole Mountain at 9,013 feet, Sherman Mountains at 8,975 feet, Point Crawford at 8,855 feet, Pilot Hill at 8,850 feet and Green Mountain at 8,752 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Pronghorn stay on the open rolling ground and leave the timber alone.

Holding ground: Coyote Flat, Timber Canyon and Katie Brown Canyon

Below them sit Coyote Flat at 7,388 feet, Timber Canyon at 7,347 feet, Katie Brown Canyon at 7,342 feet, Long Flat at 7,246 feet and Plumbago Canyon at 7,233 feet. These are the folds worth watching, and the ones other hunters walk past.

Reading the land status

Named ground inside antelope hunt area 38 runs from 4,871 feet to 9,013 feet — more than 4,000 feet between the named features alone, so the season you draw decides which part of it you hunt.

WGFD publishes no preference-point level at which a hunt draws, so none is given here. Every figure was checked against WGFD's demand-report PDFs on 2026-08-10.
