Where to Find Pronghorn in Antelope Hunt Area 24

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names antelope hunt area 24 "Thunder Basin". It runs to about 851 square miles, in Campbell (90%), Weston (7%) and Crook (3%) counties. WGFD reports these pronghorn as the Black Thunder herd unit, which also takes in antelope hunt areas 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 27 and 29. What WGFD publishes for the area is its boundary and its harvest; where the pronghorn stand inside it is our reading of the ground, and the two are kept apart below.

The line: Belle Fourche River, Four Horse Creek and Raven Creek

WGFD's 2026 Chapter 5 walks the line around antelope hunt area 24 corner by corner. It starts where Interstate Highway 90 crosses the Belle Fourche River. On the way round it follows Interstate Highway 90, U.S.F.S. Road 930, Wyoming Highway 450 and Wyoming Highway 59, and Belle Fourche River, Four Horse Creek, Raven Creek and Cheyenne River. It is the description your license is good inside, so it is worth reading once in full before you go. The full text is in Section 5 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.

Not the same ground as the other hunt area 24s

WGFD numbers each species' hunt areas on its own grid, so the number 24 also belongs to its elk, deer, moose and bighorn sheep hunt areas 24. None of them shares a county with this one. A license is good only in the hunt area of its own species, so this page is about the antelope area, and the cards at the foot of the page link the others.

Ground WGFD opens: Campbell 6 and Campbell 3 - ARCHERY ONLY

WGFD also lists 2 Walk-In Areas covering about 3,610 acres open for antelope, among them Campbell 6 and Campbell 3 - ARCHERY ONLY. WGFD's 2026 regulations open Access Yes land only for the species and dates listed for each area, with each area's own rules on WGFD's site and no motorized travel unless WGFD says otherwise.

High ground inside the line: Four Points, H A Divide and Rocky Hill

Named high points inside antelope hunt area 24 include Four Points at 5,137 feet, H A Divide at 5,118 feet, Rocky Hill at 5,079 feet, Two Top at 5,019 feet and The Jumpoff at 4,993 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Pronghorn live in the open and trust their eyes, which is the whole problem.

Holding ground: Shipley Draw, Coal Mine Draw and Coyote Draw

Below them sit Shipley Draw at 4,677 feet, Coal Mine Draw at 4,600 feet, Coyote Draw at 4,516 feet, Clabaugh Draw at 4,509 feet and Haire Draw at 4,494 feet. These are the folds worth watching, and the ones other hunters walk past.

Reading the land status

Named ground inside antelope hunt area 24 runs from 4,228 feet to 5,137 feet. Those are the heights of the features GNIS names, which bound the range from inside rather than measure it.

Wyoming Game and Fish's 2026 demand report for pronghorn in antelope hunt area 24, residents and nonresidents kept apart because they draw from different license pools:

  • Type 1 (any antelope), nonresidents: 185 first-choice applicants for 15 licenses, 8.1% drawn
  • Type 1 (any antelope), residents: 127 first-choice applicants for 199 licenses, 100% drawn
  • Type 2 (any antelope), residents: 26 first-choice applicants for 340 licenses, 100% drawn

Wyoming residents draw pronghorn licenses without preference points; nonresidents draw part of their quota on points, highest balance first (Chapter 44, Section 19), and the nonresident figures above are from WGFD's random draw. WGFD publishes no preference-point level at which a hunt draws, so none is given here. Every figure was checked against WGFD's demand-report PDFs on 2026-08-10.
