Where to Find Pronghorn in Antelope Hunt Area 109

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission names antelope hunt area 109 "Beckton". It runs to about 490 square miles, entirely in Sheridan County. WGFD reports these pronghorn as the Beckton herd unit, and no other hunt area shares it. What WGFD publishes for the area is its boundary and its harvest; where the pronghorn stand inside it is our reading of the ground, and the two are kept apart below.

The line: Piney Creek and South Piney Creek

WGFD's 2026 Chapter 5 walks the line around antelope hunt area 109 corner by corner. It starts where Interstate Highway 90 crosses the Wyoming-Montana state line. On the way round it follows Interstate Highway 90, and Piney Creek and South Piney Creek. That is a legal description, not a habitat map, and it is the text a warden reads you against. The full text is in Section 5 of that chapter, with this year's season dates and license limitations in Section 2.

Not the same ground as the other hunt area 109s

WGFD numbers each species' hunt areas on its own grid, so the number 109 also belongs to its deer hunt area 109. None of it shares a county with this one. A license is good only in the hunt area of its own species, so this page is about the antelope area, and the cards at the foot of the page link the others.

Ground WGFD opens: Kerns and Amsden Creek

WGFD administers 2 Wildlife Habitat Management Areas inside or across the line, including Kerns (4,943 acres) and Amsden Creek (3,772 acres). Its Access Yes program enrolls a Hunter Management Area here that list antelope among their species — Soldier Creek (4,101 acres). WGFD also lists 6 Walk-In Areas covering about 5,962 acres open for antelope, among them Sheridan 7, Sheridan 8 and Sheridan 11. WGFD's 2026 regulations open Access Yes land only for the species and dates listed for each area, with each area's own rules on WGFD's site and no motorized travel unless WGFD says otherwise.

High ground inside the line: Walker Mountain, Moncreiffe Ridge and T R Bench

Named high points inside antelope hunt area 109 include Walker Mountain at 8,589 feet, Moncreiffe Ridge at 6,516 feet, T R Bench at 5,542 feet, Columbus Peak at 5,411 feet and Lodge Trail Ridge at 5,147 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Pronghorn stay on the open rolling ground and leave the timber alone.

Holding ground: Bear Gulch, Orr Gulch and Red Grade Spring Draw

Below them sit Bear Gulch at 4,710 feet, Orr Gulch at 4,656 feet, Red Grade Spring Draw at 4,641 feet, Steam Shovel Draw at 4,605 feet and Spring Draw at 4,572 feet. Those are the basins and bottoms of the area, and they are what you glass into from above.

Water: Red Grade Spring

Named water inside the line includes Red Grade Spring. Nothing in the data says which of it runs in autumn, so a scouting trip earns its fuel.

Reading the land status

Named ground inside antelope hunt area 109 runs from 3,722 feet to 8,589 feet — more than 4,000 feet between the named features alone, so the season you draw decides which part of it you hunt.

Wyoming Game and Fish's 2026 demand report for pronghorn in antelope hunt area 109, residents and nonresidents kept apart because they draw from different license pools:

  • Type 1 (any antelope), nonresidents: 157 first-choice applicants for 7 licenses, 4.5% drawn
  • Type 1 (any antelope), residents: 123 first-choice applicants for 159 licenses, 100% drawn

Wyoming residents draw pronghorn licenses without preference points; nonresidents draw part of their quota on points, highest balance first (Chapter 44, Section 19), and the nonresident figures above are from WGFD's random draw. WGFD publishes no preference-point level at which a hunt draws, so none is given here. Every figure was checked against WGFD's demand-report PDFs on 2026-08-10.
