Where to Find Bighorn Sheep in Unit Kaiparowits, Escalante
What UDWR publishes for unit Kaiparowits, Escalante is a boundary, not a bighorn sheep map. Every place named below sits inside the unit line. Which of them holds animals in your season is for you to find out. The unit lies in Garfield and Kane counties.
What bounds unit Kaiparowits, Escalante
UDWR has unit Kaiparowits, Escalante Boundary begins at SR-12 and the Burr Trail road in Boulder, Utah; southeast along the Burr Trail road to the north shore of Lake Powell; southwest along the north shore of Lake Powell to the Hole-in-the-Rock road; northwest along this road to SR-12; northeast along this road to the Burr Trail road in Boulder, Utah. That is a legal description, not a habitat map. What it does give you is the way in: the rivers and highways you cross, and the divides that decide which drainage you end up in.
High ground inside the line: Deer Point, Studhorse Peaks and Sugarloaf
Named high points inside the unit include Deer Point at 7,208 feet, Studhorse Peaks at 7,097 feet, Sugarloaf at 6,919 feet, Durffey Mesa at 6,844 feet and Thompson Ledge at 6,775 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Sheep on lower country still need rock, and on a desert unit the rock is the whole hunt.
Holding ground: Buckaroo Flat, Big Horn and Halfway Hollow
Below them sit Buckaroo Flat at 5,294 feet, Big Horn at 5,255 feet, Halfway Hollow at 5,156 feet, Halfway Hollow at 5,103 feet and Wolverine Canyon at 5,011 feet. Those are the basins, parks and bottoms this unit has, and they are what you glass into from above. Work out which of them you can see from one position before you pick a camp.
Water: Soda Spring
Named sources include Soda Spring. Nothing in the data says which of them run in autumn, so a scouting trip earns its fuel.
Before you apply: who owns this unit
A UDWR permit does not authorise hunting on Native American trust lands, on a CWMU without that CWMU's own permit, or on National Park land, and written permission is required to hunt private land.

Open in Draw Odds EngineUDWR's 2024 draw recap for bighorn sheep in unit Kaiparowits, Escalante, with resident and nonresident kept apart because the two draw from different licence pools:

- Rifle, Limited Entry, Ram Only, resident: 467 applicants for 7 licences, 1.5% drawn, 12 bonus points needed
