What the hunt boundary means

This hunt isn't a whole wildlife management unit. ODFW publishes no polygon for it, and the hunt covers only part of the mapped units that carry the Strawberry Mountain ground. The legal line is the written hunt description in the current regulations. Read that wording closely and carry the printed boundary into the field. Don't treat the shape of the larger mapped unit as the hunt area.

The named high ground

Strawberry Mountain is the high point at 9032 feet, followed by Indian Spring Butte at 8539, Graham Mountain at 8538, Slide Mountain at 8509 and Rabbit Ears at 8293. Goats favour steep, broken faces beneath summits like these, so cliff bands and ridges on those peaks are where to start. The lowest named ground is 2590 feet, which is the valley edge, not goat habitat. With just one tag, the hunt rewards the hunter who spends the most time scouting. Rabbit Ears and Slide Mountain are worth finding on a map before you go, since they sit among the other named summits. Elevation changes fast here, so give yourself time to adjust and keep your first scouting day short.

The ground ODFW draws for this hunt

ODFW publishes no boundary polygon for its goat hunts, so the map shows the whole of Unit 46, about 1,148 square miles. The legal hunt area is smaller than that outline. Go by ODFW's written description, not the shaded map. Named features inside the line fall in Grant County. The highest named points are Strawberry Mountain (9,032 ft), Indian Spring Butte (8,539 ft) and Graham Mountain (8,538 ft). ODFW's line is the legal one, so check it against a current land-ownership map, and get permission before you cross private ground or a locked gate inside it.

ODFW's 2026 regulations: 65% public lands. That part of Unit 46 east of US Hwy 395.
