Unit 115 (South Snake Range, Lincoln Canyon and Murphy's Wash)
Nevada Hunting Guide — Bighorn Sheep
Unit 115 covers about 761 square miles of White Pine County on the South Snake Range, next to Great Basin National Park, where hunting isn't allowed. This Rocky Mountain bighorn hunt runs late on purpose, catching sheep as snow moves them off the park and onto BLM winter range around Murphy's Wash. Expect timber, steep hiking and access that depends on snow.

Where to Find Bighorn Sheep in Unit 115: Lincoln Canyon, Pole Canyon and Murphy's Wash
Dry, Box, Pole, Lincoln, Swallow and Minerva canyons
Most of the bighorn in Unit 115 are found in six canyons: Dry, Box, Pole, Lincoln, Swallow and Minerva. The sheep rut at the top of Lincoln Canyon near the Great Basin National Park boundary, which can make it a productive place to begin when the season opens.
Murphy's Wash to Silver Chief Canyon in winter
The late dates on this hunt are deliberate. They give hunters a chance at bighorn as the sheep leave the national park for wintering areas on BLM land. Snow drives them downhill. Rams winter in the lower part of Murphy's Wash and around to Silver Chief Canyon. In a mild winter, green-up can start in February, and the sheep come down for the new growth instead.
Finding them is the hard part. Bighorn here spend a good deal of time in timber, which makes them difficult to locate, and the hiking is steep wherever you go. Know exactly where the park boundary runs before you glass, because a ram standing inside Great Basin National Park is off limits.
The ground NDOW draws for this tag
A bighorn sheep tag for this group is good in unit 115, about 761 square miles measured on NDOW's own boundary, in White Pine County. The highest named points are Wheeler Peak (13,013 ft), Doso Doyabi (12,752 ft) and Baker Peak (12,229 ft), and the lowest named ground sits near 5,110 feet. We don't print a land-status split for Nevada groups, because the figures we held didn't come from BLM's surface-management data; check BLM's current map for private parcels before you cross a fence or a cattle guard. GNIS names 32 springs inside it, Ohio Spring, South Spring, North Little Springs and Worthington Spring among them.

The lay of it
- 5,518–9,817 ft on a terrain sample , averaging 6,551 ft ; peaks can run higher. That spread means you can hunt two seasons in one day — plan clothing for both ends.
- 640.5 sq mi inside the boundary.
Water on the ground
- 16 tanks
- 132 springs
- 75 stream segments
Counts from mapping data, so this is how many exist, not how many hold water in a dry year. Sitting water only pays where you find fresh tracks.
