Where to Find Pronghorn in Units 065, 142, 144: Table Mountain and the Middle Piñon Range
Table Mountain and the middle Piñon Range
Antelope live throughout this group, from the low ground near Diamond Valley's farm fields to the top of the Piñon Range in Unit 065. On public land, NDOW finds the highest densities around Table Mountain in Unit 142 and at middle elevations in the Piñon Range. The sheet traces that range country closely: Bailey Mountain north to Robinson Mountain, Smith Creek Basin to Trout Creek, Cedar Ridge, and the far north end of Unit 065 between Grindstone Mountain and State Route 278.
Farm-field antelope and the public edge
Some antelope live on agricultural land. You can hunt them on the BLM ground around those fields, but NDOW advises asking the landowner for permission before you hunt along the line where private meets public.
Water without the cattle
The biologist adds one more filter. For the most part, antelope here avoid heavy concentrations of livestock and feral horses. So when you check water, favour sources that aren't getting hammered by cattle or horses. A spring or trough with plenty of stock around it is less likely to hold pronghorn than a quieter source nearby, even if both look good on the map.
The ground NDOW draws for this tag
A pronghorn tag for this group is good in units 065, 142 and 144, about 2,113 square miles measured on NDOW's own boundary, in Eureka County, White Pine County and Elko County. The named ranges inside the line are Diamond Mountains, Dixie Hills, Sulphur Spring Range, Diamond Hills and Piñon Range. The highest named points are Diamond Peak (10,595 ft), Christina Peak (9,635 ft) and Summit Peak (9,357 ft), and the lowest named ground sits near 4,931 feet. We don't print a land-status split for Nevada groups, because the figures we held didn't come from BLM's surface-management data; check BLM's current map for private parcels before you cross a fence or a cattle guard. GNIS names 126 springs inside it, Siri Ranch Spring, McCoy Spring, Stinson Spring and Pinto Creek Springs among them.
