Where to Find Pronghorn in Unit A381
What Montana FWP publishes for unit A381 is a boundary, not a pronghorn map. The country below is verified; where to begin in it is our judgement, not the agency's. The unit lies in Lewis and Clark County.
The lines of the unit: MacDonald Pass, Continental Divide and Flesher Pass
Montana FWP draws unit A381 in Lewis and Clark County with a boundary that runs on Route 602, US Highway 12, Interstate 15 and Highway 279, and on MacDonald Pass, Continental Divide, Flesher Pass and Lyons Creek, walked corner by corner in its hunting district legal descriptions. Read it as a frame, not as a hint about animals. Its value is practical — those are the features you will navigate by, and the ridges that separate one day's country from another's.
High ground inside the line: Granite Butte, Greenhorn Mountain and Mount Belmont
Named high points inside the unit include Granite Butte at 7,595 feet, Greenhorn Mountain at 7,500 feet, Mount Belmont at 7,328 feet, Mitchell Mountain at 7,027 feet and Beartooth Mountain at 6,790 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Pronghorn live in the open and trust their eyes, which is the whole problem.
Holding ground: Rawhide Gulch, Ottawa Gulch and Jerusha Gulch
Below them sit Rawhide Gulch at 5,486 feet, Ottawa Gulch at 5,483 feet, Jerusha Gulch at 5,411 feet, Left Hand Fork Cottonwood Gulch at 5,254 feet and Drinkwater Gulch at 5,209 feet. These are the folds worth watching, and the ones other hunters walk past on the way to somewhere steeper. Reaching the edge of one before light beats reaching its middle at noon.

Pronghorn Success Rates
Montana FWP's 2023 harvest estimates carry no pronghorn row for unit A381 that we can read back to this unit on its own. Where the agency reports a unit inside a grouping, or prints a table our parser cannot resolve to a single column, we leave the number out rather than publish a statewide average as though it had been measured here. Montana FWP's current harvest estimates are the place to check before you apply.
Pronghorn Draw Odds
| Season | Tags | Applicants | Draw % | Pts (n/p) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rifle — General either sex (resident) | 4 | 113 | 3.5% | — |
Data from 2024 draw results. Each row is one residency pool — read the label before the number. This agency publishes no point thresholds, so the Pts column stays blank and these are pool odds, not what a point total draws.
Open in Draw Odds EngineMontana FWP's draw recap has no pronghorn record we can tie to unit A381. That usually means the licence is sold over the counter, is issued under a hunt code covering several units, or was not offered in the years we hold. Rather than estimate a point requirement, we leave it blank — check Montana FWP's own draw recap for the hunt code you mean to apply for.
