Where to Find Pronghorn in Unit A339: the Shields valley floor between US 89 and the Crazies
FWP calls antelope district 339 Shields River South. It covers roughly 248 square miles of Park and Sweet Grass counties, and the agency publishes a boundary for it without any account of where its pronghorn live.
The frame FWP draws
The line starts at the Yellowstone River bridge on US Highway 89 just north of Interstate 90 east of Livingston, runs north along US 89 to Cottonwood Creek near Clyde Park, then east and north up that creek to the Crazy Mountain Divide near Conical Peak, south along the divide to Fairview Peak, south to the head of the West Fork of Duck Creek, and down that creek to the Yellowstone. So the district is the south end of the Shields valley with the west flank of the Crazy Mountains standing over it.
Hunt the low ground, not the peaks
Two of the named summits inside the line are high Crazy Mountain country — Iddings Peak at 10,907 feet and Wilsall Peak at 10,561, both National Forest. Neither is pronghorn ground. The animals live on the valley floor and the benches, and the named features at that elevation are what matter: Antelope Butte at 6,186 feet, Elk Mountain at 6,367, Sheep Mountain at 6,309, Choke-To-Death Butte at 6,308, Rattlesnake Ridge at 5,452, Cedar Butte at 5,449, Hole-In-The-Rock at 5,415, Long Ridge at 5,322 and Moolsh Hill at 5,307.
The access problem, stated plainly
Of those low features, our land-status data flags only Antelope Butte as public, and it reads as State Trust rather than National Forest. The rest read private. That's the shape of this district: the public acreage is concentrated high in the Crazies where the pronghorn aren't, and the pronghorn ground is largely in private hands. Hunters Hot Springs is the one named water inside the line. Settle access before the season rather than during it, and check FWP's Block Management listings for the Shields valley — on this district, permission is the hunt.
