Where to Find Bighorn Sheep in Unit S67

CPW's material on unit S67 stops at the boundary — there is no agency account of where its bighorn sheep live. Every place named below sits inside the unit line. Which of them holds animals in your season is for you to find out. The unit lies in Rio Blanco and Garfield counties.

The lines of the unit: Williams Fork River-White River divide, White River- Yampa River divide and White River-Colorado River divide

CPW has unit S67 bounded on the north by Williams Fork River-White River divide; on the east by White River- Yampa River divide and White River-Colorado River divide; on the south by South Fork of White River-Colorado River divide; on the west by USFS 245, Rio Blanco CRs 17 (Buford-Newcastle Rd.) and 8 and USFS 250. That is a legal description, not a habitat map. Those features are what you will check against the map all week, and the divides among them are the ones that matter.

High ground inside the line: Trappers Peak, Lost Lakes Peaks and Little Marvine Peaks

Named high points inside the unit include Trappers Peak at 12,001 feet, Lost Lakes Peaks at 11,933 feet, Little Marvine Peaks at 11,912 feet, Big Marvine Peak at 11,863 feet and Blair Mountain at 11,460 feet. Several carry a public-land flag in our data, which makes them the first places to try for a view. Sheep need rock to escape into and will not stand far from it.

Holding ground: Lily Pond Park, Wild Cow Park and Big Park

Below them sit Lily Pond Park at 10,188 feet, Wild Cow Park at 9,593 feet, Big Park at 9,569 feet, Papoose Basin at 9,226 feet and Peltier Basin at 9,206 feet. Those are the basins, parks and bottoms this unit has, and they are what you glass into from above. Two you can watch from a single knob is worth more than five you have to drive between.

The herd this unit belongs to: RBS-33

CPW does not manage bighorn sheep unit by unit. It manages them as data analysis unit RBS-33, and unit S67 is one piece of it. The rest of RBS-33 is unit S59 and unit S74. That matters twice over: the population objective and the licence numbers are set for the whole area, and the animals move across unit lines inside it without noticing them.

CPW's 2025 draw recap for bighorn sheep in unit S67, by hunt code, with resident and nonresident kept apart because the two draw from different licence pools:
