Arizona Bighorn Sheep

Unit 41W (Palomas, Tank and Little Horn Mountains)

Arizona Hunting Guide — Bighorn Sheep

41W is the western bighorn hunt area of GMU 41 — the Palomas Mountains, the Tank Mountains and the Little Horn Mountains with the Clanton Hills, in the low desert between Interstate 8 and Interstate 10 east of Yuma. The last survey suggested a declining population trend, and the three-year average score for rams taken in 41W is 155. Two complications shape the hunt: the west end of the Palomas and the productive west half of the Tank Mountains both sit on Yuma Proving Ground, where access is restricted and a hunter permit card is required, and the Little Horns are a mesa complex whose sheep live on top, out of sight from below.

41W is a top-tier Arizona bighorn draw. With ~9 tags against ~755 applicants over three years, odds per applicant run roughly 1.2% under AZ's weighted system. 20% of tags go to max-point applicants first, then 80% through random weighted draw. Expect to need 15–25+ bonus points. Harvesting an AZ bighorn ends eligibility to apply for bighorn in the state again.
