Unit 27/28 (Blue Range, Mogollon Rim and the Gila Mountains)
Arizona Hunting Guide — Coues Whitetail Deer
The combined 27/28 Coues whitetail hunt spans two very different pieces of eastern Arizona. Unit 27 runs from semi-desert at Clifton at 3,500 feet up through chaparral, pinyon-juniper and ponderosa to spruce-fir on the Mogollon Rim at 9,300 feet, taking in the Blue Range, the Big Lue Mountains and the canyons coming off the Rim. Unit 28 is the Gila Mountains country northeast of Safford, where whitetail hunting is limited — roughly 10 to 12 deer are taken there each year. The best of this hunt is in unit 27 around Mitchell and Grey's Peak and along the southern face of the Rim, in rough, steep country with very limited vehicle access.
