Unit 20C (Weaver, Date Creek and McCloud Mountains)

Arizona Hunting Guide — Mule Deer

GMU 20C is the Weaver, Date Creek and McCloud Mountains northwest of Phoenix, dropping into lower Mohave and Sonoran desert at its edges. The highest deer densities are in those three ranges, where dense shrub live oak and wait-a-minute bush is broken by patches of more open desert grassland — and the agency's advice is to concentrate on the open patches, because that is where you can glass and stalk. The desert country holds the lowest densities in the unit but sometimes produces the largest mature bucks. Access is the complication: several of the main routes end at locked gates on private property, and off the paved Wagoner–Crown King Road there is no access without landowner permission.
